Daggpil
Hallo Sammlerfreunde!
I will write in English, but I hope to get an answer anyway. I understand written German perfectly so please feel free to reply back in your language.
I just bought the rapier on the pictures. Last time it was sold was in 1982 when a well known auction company wrote in their catalog: "Rapier from ca 1590-1620, possibly of Italian or Spanish origin"
Now the question: Is that a correct description or could it be from another part of Europe and is the dating correct as well?
I dont know very much of these old weapons so any other information would be nice as well.
As shown on the pictures its a "Sweapt hilt" and a blade with double fullers, the length of the blade is 96 cm. There are remains of brown patina left on some places i.e. in the fullers and on the hilt. Personally I would have liked it better in "uncleaned" condition but there were other views on cleaning old weapons 40-50 years ago with less care for signs of age. I guess that it is not so much to do about that now.
Best regards/Daggpil (Schweden)
